Wansford-in-England has been a sign prominently displayed on premises in the village for many years. Wansford is a very English village and has lots to offer not only the residents but also the visitors.
The village is split by the river Nene and on its banks sits the Haycock Hotel. This hotel goes back many years and was originally a coaching inn. Just behind the hotel is the cricket pitch where the very active Wansford Cricket Club plays games in the summer. This is also where the Wansford Horticultural Society holds its annual show where everyone can display their home grown produce.
There are many places to eat and drink in the village. The Wansford Cakery is right next door to Daisy Chain and here you can buy delicious home made cakes, filled baguettes and hot drinks. The Cross Keys pub is based a few yards from Daisy Chain and this offers bed and breakfast as well as a welcome drink. Go down Elton Road to where it meets London Road and you will find the acclaimed Paper Mills pub and restaurant. It is famous for not only its traditional pub fayre, but also its specials. Due to open very soon is Fiddlesticks which has recently been renovated and turned from an English restaurant to a French bistro.
There are lots of shops to visit. The local village store has fresh bread, milk and eggs as well as a wide range of wine and everything in the grocery line you could possibly need.
At 4 Elton Road is the recently opened The Barn selling objets d’art and furniture. If you want new clothes then boheme is the place to visit as here you will find Vivienne Westwood clothes for men and women as well as jewellery and accessories.
No village is complete without a hairdresser and Wansford has two of these SW13 opposite the Haycock and the Hair Boutique inside the hotel. Also inside the hotel is Vow, a bridal shop.
Wansford is located where the A1 and the A47 cross. It is eight miles west of Peterbrough and seven miles south of Stamford. It is only a few yards off the A1 and worth a visit. Local attractions also include the Nene Valle Railway and Sacrewell Farm.
